IRIS SOFTWARE

With each fermenter, small or large, the question of how to collect, analyze and visualize data arises. More complex applications ask for security of the system, possibility of configuration, compatibility, programming etc.. With the multi-fermenter package IRIS, INFORS offers one of the most powerful programs on the market. Developed by biotechnologists who are familiar with the demands and problems created by working with fermenters, this software is an optimal complement to your system.

 The most important features are:

  • Control of up to 8 fermenters per PC-station Iris Software
  • Applicable for research as well as for production
  • Easy to learn and operate, Windows NT standard
  • Networkable (also over FTP-server)
  • Implementation of external peripherals
  • Can be used with fermenters from other manufacturers
  • Very flexible control language for process automation
  • Online data exchange with other applications over OLE
  • Setting-up of simulations which can also be used for fermentation
  • Complete graphical analysis of data with comfortable output possibilities
  • Protocols in ASCII format, therefore easy export to all general programs

Iris Software Due to its flexibility IRIS can be applied in many ways. Whether as a "light"-version for the control of a Labfors, as a networkable "pro"-version or even as a validated element of an entire process control system, all levels of application are taken into account. With this multi- fermenter program, INFORS offers a highly modern solution for your demands. A solution which does not dominate the fermentation process but helps you with your individual work with the fermenter.

An example of the ease of use IRIS software is in the various options for control. A flexible language (compiled from within IRIS) can cope with virtually any requirement. Sequence control based on time or events is possible with the crucial ability to "jump" to specific sequences only if certain process conditions are met.

Alternatively, an archived data file from a previous fermentation an be used with the "Follow File " facility to automatically generate set-points for a new fermentation. This allows a high degree of automation without the need for control language statements.

Parameters can be exchanged in both directions between IRIS and other Windows software. This allows the process to be influenced by external programs if so desired.

"DDC CONTROLLERS"

DDC

The INFORS DDC-system stands for intelligent microprocessor control for fermenters of all sizes. In addition to its flexibility, the menu driven operation is impressive. The keyboard complies with the general Windows standard and remains the same for all fermenters, whether small or large, therefore reducing uncertainties with operation and the need for extensive training. The operation is further simplified by a context sensitive online service.

All INFORS DDC-systems come with a "Memory-Card". This exchangeable form of data storage is the size of a credit card and automatically saves all entered data. An unlimited number of formulas can therefore be run on one unit without time consuming changes of the program.

u-DDC and s-DDC

With u-DDC all functions are controlled by one central microprocessor while with s-DDC they are distributed over several processors. With s-DDC the system can be expanded almost without limit and it is even safer. The "s" stands for "safe"; and this safety is based on the "mirror" system.

Corresponding with user demands, u-DDC is mostly used with mini and small fermenters; s-DDC however, is used with pilot and production fermenters. For large fermenters from Pierre-Guerin other MSR-systems can be offered upon request.

Upgrades

Compared to measuring and control systems, the demands regarding material and hardware of a fermentation plant have not undergone many changes over the last years. Units which could still be used without problem where mechanical components are concerned are discarded because of old MSR instrumentation systems.

This is where upgrading starts . The aim is to supply the existing fermenter with modern measuring and control systems, this way rendering it effective again for qualified processes. The DDC-technology of INFORS was designed especially for such processes as well and has already been proven many times in this way.
